Papa e Obama discutem tráfico humano e conflitos mundiais

O Papa e o Presidente dos Estados Unidos conversaram hoje sobre temas como o direito a vida, o tráfico de pessoas e os conflitos no mundo, de acordo com um comunicado do Vaticano.


"Houve uma conversa sobre questões de particular relevância sobre a Igreja naquele país (EUA), como o exercício dos direitos de liberdade religiosa, da vida e da objeção de consciência", refere a nota do Vaticano.

O Papa defendeu o direito dos médicos que se recusam a realizar abortos nos Estados Unidos.

Obama e o Papa Francisco concordaram, durante a reunião, sobre um "compromisso comum" para erradicar o tráfico humano e discutiram a reforma da imigração nos Estados Unidos.

Os dois chefes de Estado sublinharam a necessidade do direito internacional ser respeitado em zonas de conflito em todo o mundo e uma "solução negociada entre as partes envolvidas" nestes conflitos, refere o comunicado do Vaticano, que não menciona que conflitos foram abordados na reunião.

Obama parecia à vontade e brincou com o papa durante a parte aberta aos repórteres de seu primeiro encontro com ele, dizendo em dado momento não saber como sua mulher e suas filhas “o aguentam”. 

Presidente e sua delegação, incluindo o secretário de Estado, John Kerry, passaram pelos saguões decorados de afrescos do Palácio Apostólico do Vaticano até a entrada da biblioteca particular de Francisco.

Não foram divulgados até o momento quaisquer detalhes da conversa, mas na véspera da reunião Obama deu uma entrevista ao jornal italiano Corriere della Sera elogiando o compromisso do papa com o enfrentamento da diferença crescente entre ricos e pobres. “É uma grande honra. Sou um grande admirador”, disse o presidente ao ser saudado pelo papa e convidado a se sentar junto à mesa do pontífice. “Muito obrigado por me receber”.
